FleetBoston Financial

FleetBoston Financial has tapped Jane Magpiong as the new leader of the firm’s private client group. Her main responsibility will be to grow Fleet’s existing $40 billion wealth management asset base. Magpiong was previously head of private client services and wealth management in the Bay Area of California for Wells Fargo, which she joined in 1989.

State Street Research

Mark Marinella, who recently left his position as head of fixed income at Columbia Asset Management after eight months, will join State Street Research next week as chief investment officer, fixed income. Marinella will be responsible for a team of 35 portfolio managers, traders, and analysts.

Lincoln Financial Distributors

Lincoln Financial Distributors has selected Kevin Hart as senior executive and business unit head. Lincoln Financial Distributors is the wholesaling arm of Lincoln Retirement and Delaware Investments. Hart was formerly the president and CEO at SunAmerica Financial Network.

U.S. Bancorp

Mark Ellegard has been hired by U.S. Bancorp as vice president overseeing fund sales in the eastern territory of the U.S. Previously, Ellegard was a sales representative at State Street Bank/Boston Financial Data Services’ transfer agent services division.

Northern Trust

Northern Trust, which is opening its first wealth management office in New York, has selected two individuals to ramp up its push into the Northeast. John Kauffman, formerly of Goldman Sachs, will head the New York office with oversight of the Greater New York Area. Thomas Smith, who has been with Northern Trust since 1994, will be managing director of wealth management in the Northeast covering Greater New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.

MFS Investment Management

MFS announced that chief administrative officer, Joseph Dello Russo, has resigned his post effective month end. The firm also stated that they will not fill the vacant position and will instead split his current duties among senior managers. Dello Russo joined MFS in 1994 as CFO.

Gartmore Global Investments

Chris Meyer was this week appointed head of marketing for the firm. Meyer replaces Craig Andrews, who left the firm earlier this year. Meyer has been working as a consultant for Gartmore Global Investments for the past year and a half.
